An Important Message from Ron & Mia
December 11, 2022
Dear ByHeart Family,
From the moment Ron and I started this company six years ago, we have had the deepest appreciation for the importance of the first food we give our babies. As parents ourselves, we are committed to providing peace of mind when it comes to feeding. We are accountable to you—and part of accountability is to always try to do the right thing.
We are reaching out to you today to let you know that, out of an abundance of caution, we have chosen to voluntarily recall five batches of our ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula due to concern of potential cross-contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii. These product batches are 22273 C1, 22276 C1, 22277 C1, 22278 C1, and 22280 C1. Here’s everything you need to know:
No distributed ByHeart product has tested positive for the bacteria, and we have not received any consumer complaints that would indicate illness from Cronobacter. If your baby has already consumed all of the formula, there is no reason for concern, and no additional action is needed. If you do have recalled product, you should dispose of it.
It is important to note that this voluntary recall is not related to our own manufacturing in any way, and we remain confident in our safety testing and quality program. We own our entire manufacturing supply chain, with the exception of final canning, which is conducted by a reputable third-party packager. We are taking this precautionary measure because one test sample collected from the third-party packaging facility tested positive for Cronobacter sakazakii. All product packaged that day, and the first production on the next day, was isolated for destruction and not distributed. Out of an abundance of caution, we are now recalling all product produced during the entire run.
Parents can remain confident in the safety of ByHeart’s products as we continue to expand our investments in infant formula innovation, clinical studies, and industry-leading quality standards. Our manufacturing facility in Reading, PA, continues to operate 24/7, and we are committed to providing you infant formula come January.
In the meantime, our priority is to make sure that all customers have what they need to keep their babies fed and healthy, no matter what brand of formula they use. While we work diligently to meet the demand for formula, the fastest way we can replace the formula that you purchased is to cover the cost of two cans of alternate formula. Additionally, affected customers will receive two cans of their next order of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Formula for free. We will also be reaching out directly to all customers via email who recently purchased orders from ByHeart.
The safety of your family is our number one priority – and we are here for you and with you. As you know, we’re ByHeart customers, too. My baby Simone just finished drinking ByHeart, and Ron’s seven-month-old, Avner, is on it currently. We know that the most important thing we can do is be transparent with you and over-communicate and we will continue to do just that.
We remain steadfast in our commitment to quality and transparency every step of the way. If you have any questions, please visit our FAQs, email us at notices@byheart.com or text 1-909-506-2354.
With love,
Mia & Ron and the ByHeart team
